How To Fix Earbuds

While you can go out and buy let another set of earbuds, you can easily fix them yourself at home. With earbuds selling for up to $100, for just a little time you can put them back together yourself. Most things you will need you can find around the house.



Things you'll Need:

- 3m heat shrink
- A earbud jack
- Soldering gun
- Wire cutters
- Solder flux



Instructions:

Step 1
Identify the problem. The problem is located in the jack. The repeated twisting of the wires severes the connection. This is the problem of all earbuds.













Step 5: Repair Earbuds

Re-enforce the jack. Wrap the heat shrink around the wires. Then add a larger piece around it. This accomplishes two things: First, it protects your work that you have just completed. Second, It makes the connections between the wires and the jack stronger.






Tips & Warnings:


-Never tug and pull on you earbuds wires. This results in broken earbuds. Treat your earbuds good and they will bring you countless hours of listing pleasure

.-Always wrap your earbuds up. Letting them dangle will only get them caught on something. This is the other way all earbuds break.

Double check your work. Check that all sides of the wires are solid. Plug the jack into the music player. There with be sound. For poor sound or no sound, go back and check the wires for broken connections.

Separate the wires. There should be a half inch of bare wire.


Remove the insulated coating and add the tin. There are two sets of wires. Green wire and red wire. Spread the wires apart.

Make the Connection. Carefully make contact with the solder gun to each side of the wire. Make contact only briefly. Do not drip the solder.

Take the wirer cutter and cut off the jack. Get as close as possible to the old jack. There needs to be as much wire as possible.
